OSRS PvP Potion Management — Quick Guide

Saradomin brew — know the downside

Saradomin brews are your main healing tool in PvP. Each dose heals around 15% of your Hitpoints (+2) and boosts Defence — but it comes at a cost. Every dose drains your offensive stats: Attack, Strength, Ranged, and Magic all drop (roughly 10% + 2 per dose).

So while brewing keeps you alive, it quietly lowers your max hit and accuracy. If you spam brews without correcting for it, you'll be hitting well below your real potential.

Super restore & the 3:1 ratio

Super restore is how you undo the offensive drain from brewing. A dose restores your lowered combat stats by 25% + 8.

The standard rotation is 3 brews : 1 super restore. Three brews drain your stats a fair amount; one restore brings them back near base. Holding this ratio keeps you topped up on HP and keeps your Attack/Strength (or Ranged/Magic) high enough to actually deal damage. Restore too rarely and you stay drained; restore too often and you waste doses and inventory space.

Hitting with vs without your buff

Your max hit and accuracy are calculated from your current boosted stat, not your base level.

  • Buff active (super combat / ranging potion): Super combat adds ~5 + 15% to Attack/Strength/Defence (around +19 at 99). A ranging potion adds ~4 + 10% to Ranged. Boosted, you hit higher and land more often.

  • No buff, or drained below base by brews: You're hitting off your base level or lower — noticeably weaker max hits and worse accuracy.

In a close fight that gap is often the entire fight. Staying boosted isn't optional.

Common blunders

Sipping a buff potion while drained below base. When you drink a boosting potion, the boost is added to your current level and capped at (base + boost). If brews have dragged your Strength below base, potting now adds the boost on top of that lowered number — you land below your real max and waste boost potential. Super restore back to base first, then pot to reach the full boost.

Sipping a buff potion while still boosted. If you're already at your boosted cap and drink another super combat, nothing happens — the sip does literally nothing. Only re-pot once the boost has decayed or you've been drained back below the cap. Otherwise you're throwing doses away.

Potting tips

Always be potted when you spec. Special attack damage scales with your boosted combat stat. A spec landed at full boost hits dramatically harder than one landed drained or unbuffed — so make sure your buff is up before you spec, never after.

Pot when your HP is high. Don't boost and then immediately need a Saradomin brew — the brew will re-drain the stats you just boosted, wasting the pot. Time your boost for when you're healthy and won't be reaching for a brew in the next few seconds.
